My State of the Union Address

Two horrible things happened last week – one in a suburb of Pittsburgh (Squirrel Hill) and the other across the country. A mass shooting at a synagogue, The Spring of Life, happened in Pittsburgh and mail bombs were sent to prominent Democrats – 14 of them at last count. I was watching CNN (God forgive!) and they reported on both objectively in my mind (they even covered the sympathetic things Trump said about these horrific incidents), but undoubtedly, it must have been “fake news”! I’m not sure which is faker – Trump, his partisan rhetoric which quickly returned after these incidents, his White House, or the news. Kellyanne Conway was on CNN yesterday morning and “talked” about how divided America is, but she quickly pointed her finger at Democratically-minded people for describing Trump as a pig, racist, and misogynist even though some of his behavior was caught on tape and the other person involved got fired from his job for the comments Trump made. The poor guy just happened to be there and didn’t react strongly enough against Trump’s remarks in the eyes of his ex-employer, I guess. Not surprisingly, Conway also brought up the shooting of Representative Scalese to emphasize that it is people from both sides of the aisle who are responsible for the divisions in the country. It doesn’t have anything to do with Trump using the term ‘evil’ when he referred to those against confirming Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court in her and other fervent Trump supporters’ minds.

Trump’s campaign manager for 2020 said it costs a lot of money for Trump to go to rally in support of those running on the GOP ticket for 2018. According to the manager, they are ‘shows’ for the ‘fans’. Is Trump the Commander in Chief or the Entertainer in Chief? No wonder things are so bad!

Over all, it reminds me of the expression, “the best defense is a good offense.” It seems to be Trump’s and his White House’s modus operandi. The term is often used to describe a criminal’s behavior. Oh, Mueller is investigating that too!
